When you apply for spouse sponsorship, you can sponsor your spouse, conjugal partner, common-law partner, or your dependent child. The person you are sponsoring must undergo thorough background verification and medical and security checks.

Which class of application should you choose during your online application?

• Family Class

You can choose family class during your Canada immigration spousal sponsorship application only if:

• You are sponsoring your conjugal partner or your dependent child who lives outside Canada.
• You are sponsoring your conjugal partner or your dependent child who is currently living with you in Canada but doesn’t plan to continue living in Canada when the application is processed.
• Your previous application was refused, so you are planning to appeal for approval.

• Spouse or Common-Law Partner in Canada Class

You can choose Spouse or Common-Law Partner in Canada Class during your application only if:

• You are sponsoring a spouse or common-law partner who lives in Canada.
• You are sponsoring a spouse or common-law partner who has a temporary residence permit in Canada.
• You are sponsoring a spouse or common-law partner who doesn’t need to have a temporary residence permit in Canada under public policy such as refugee policies.

If so, is your marriage registered in the country you got married and in Canada too?
